Why volunteer in Africa?

volunteer in UgandaWe are looking for short term volunteers who are: enthusiastic, hard-working, self-motivated and proactive people who are able to work under their own initiative and as part of a team to volunteer in Uganda and Kenya.

Msafiri Tours typical short term volunteers do not replace or take jobs away from local Ugandans – they assist them with the various projects.  If this describes you, then we’d welcome an application from you.

How we help: We tailor make your short term volunteering itinerary after talking to you to access your needs and requirements including budget. What we will do includes, suggesting and designing an itinerary, informal meetings with you and your leaders where possible if you are part of an established group. We advise on flight booking, thought we do not do them. We arrange ground transportation in Uganda and we provide trained English speaking drivers and guides in Uganda. We provide all meals, accommodation, Safari and Excursions arrangements; help with Visa applications and pre departure information and orientation and opportunity for you to be involved in our supported projects as a volunteer in Uganda

How we choose the projects we work with: We are often asked by organisations looking for links and short term volunteers in Uganda but we only work with a few specific organisations, most of which are from personal relationships that Denis developed growing up in Uganda.  We visit all projects personally and only send short term volunteers or mission teams on projects we know well.

We only work with genuine projects and organisations which we know have a long-term commitment to the local communities where they are based in Uganda. The projects we work with exist weather they have volunteers or not but need support they get from our over seas missioners and volunteers.

Msafiri is in regular contact with all our projects, supporting them by providing volunteer in Uganda or Kenya teams and mission teams, advice and we make financial support some times.

The benefit is mutual: We believe that for any volunteer experience must have a two way benefit. Benefit to the overseas volunteer giving their time and money, and benefit to the organisation they work with in Africa.

Where your money goes:  Msafiri asks for a fee to volunteer in Uganda, to cover the overseas costs of volunteering and the costs of running our organisation. Without charging a fee we would not be able to exist. Fee levels are set to match costs on each mission or volunteer trip and a percentage is given to the organisations we work with though most times its in form or materials than money.

The fee paid helps us to provide what you need to travel and stay safely and comfortably in Africa during your volunteer time, this means hiring and using good drivers, using good ethical hotels and local suppliers in Uganda and so on. We want you to have peace of mind while you volunteer in Uganda or Kenya so we deal with the minor but important details.

The projects we work with in Africa do not have money  to cover volunteer costs and are often struggling to find finances for their  work , that is why its necessary that the costs of supporting volunteers are covered.

A typical Volunteer trip: Whilst the experiences taken away by each person will be highly individual, most Volunteer trips  to Uganda include a planning phase, a volunteer phase, an adventure-Safari phase and a culture & relaxation phase.

The team are encouraged to take responsibility for their trip from the start and they have ownership of the expedition, from initial planning right through to getting to the airport on the way home. Members of the team will take on roles and responsibilities under the guidance of the Msafiri team in Uganda.

By the end of the trip we aim to ensure that each individual feels as though it was their Africa trip and that they could repeat it themselves.
